Responses in favour of siting at the Paparoa Hall...
1 PAPAROA MEMORIAL HALL Just want to register our opinion re flagpole. We consider that none of the recreational open spaces in Paparoa are the appropriate sites for a flagpole (ie Village Green or The Landing). As recreational open spaces they should not be
(a) filled up with objects that clutter that open space
(b) contain objects that do not have a recreational focus or
a connection with that space
(c) become a place to fill with objects just because it is
there and available.
The most appropriate place for a flagpole is at the Hall. No matter what may be said, a flagpole is irrevocably tied to nationalistic pride and vervour which is best expressed outside the Memorial Hall, not in a place for recreation which is used by people of many nationalities and beliefs.
2 PAPAROA MEMORIAL HALL We think it would be appropiate that it be sited near the Paparoa Memorial Hall.
3 PAPAROA HALL CARPARK Our choice would be in the hall carpark, roadside, as this is where it would be most visible, and avoid the "clutter" of trees etc. of the other alternatives.
4 PAPAROA HALL CARPARK At the very front of the Paparoa Hall carpark.
5 PAPAROA HALL No reason given
6 PAPAROA HALL I'll go for the hall site. No justification for that choice!! Just seems appropriate and probably less susceptible to "interference".
7 PAPAROA HALL This is the only appropriate site.
8 PAPAROA HALL I support the flagpole being sited at the Paparoa Hall.
The Hall is a symbol of the center of the village community.
The hall is on Crown Reserve land and cannot be sold or disposed of. Other suggested sites are on or close to Road Reserve land and can be taken or acquired by the road controlling authority if needed.
The hall is a prominent location and clear of other recreational uses.
Although this is not an RSA or government flagpole the community will view it as having special status. It will only be used on significant occasions and not everyday.
It is likely that in time Paparoa will develop along the State Highway towards Pahi Rd bringing this area into more prominence.
The Landing and Village Green are already crowded with historical and recreational features. A flagpole is a symbol of national and community pride and would be inappropriate in either of these two areas.
Responses in favour of siting it at The Landing...
1 THE LANDING Landing sounds best
2 THE LANDING Perhaps at the Landing if we have to have one
3 THE LANDING When this was brought up at our Lions meeting, I had not given it any thought, and didn’t have an opinion on it.
After some thought, I think that the flagpole would be most visible at the landing reserve as close to the Road formation as NZTA will allow it to be placed (not that close). It also provides some space near to the flagpole for gatherings etc.
While the Hall is a reasonable logical choice, it does not have the advantages of being central and most visible.
4 THE LANDING Definitely 'The Landing' as we feel it would be much more visible there than either Village Green or Hall. The Village Green is a bit cluttered & we do not believe that the Hall catches people's attention much as they drive by. On the other hand, is it for passersby or the local community???
Responses in favour of siting it at the Village Green...
1 VILLAGE GREEN My preference is for the Village Green – as it’s the most central position in the village
2 VILLAGE GREEN The village green would be my preference.
3 VILLAGE GREEN I recommend the Village green for the flagpole. It is in the centre of the village, and would be the natural meeting place on any occasion it seemed to be a time to gather everyone together.
4 VILLAGE GREEN It should be somewhere on the village green. Maybe along where the cherry trees are so that it is visible from the road.
This area is used more for get togethers like christmas time etc. and we feel that the flag would draw the people to the area.
This is a dry area and sometimes people just like to sit under a flag and reflect.
5 VILLAGE GREEN Paparoa always had a flagstaff on the Council buildings which was a type of landmark cum -- this is Paparoa village. What will it get used for and will and who will be responsible to manage same? All 3 sites are good-- maybe village green where visitors stop
Responses in favour of siting it at the Old Post Office...
